Another very hard day for Kris....

Kris was hoping for a better day today, but unfortunately things just got worse :( Long story short, I ended up having to take her to Dana Farber again today and then she was admitted to Brigham and Woman's. She is not able to eat or drink ANYTHING, as the sores in her mouth are extremely painful. It's a vicious cycle....mouth is killing her so she needs to take pain meds....but pain meds make her extremely nauseous and she ends up getting sick from them. Her doctor thought it was best to admit her so they can try to get pain under control so she is able to eat and get the sores to heal.

Her white blood count was already very low, and she also started with a fever today while at the hospital, so they are worried of a possible infection. Luckily she was already at the hospital though, so they were able to do blood cultures and start her on IV antibiotics right away.

Her doctor is so very sweet and was right there with Kris today. She said that she needs to review her case and make some substantial changes to her treatment plan now. She says that she always tells patients about these possible reactions/side-effects, but they typically don't happen. Well, lucky Kris got them all, and really badly :( She said that it's not their intent to have her in this much pain though, so although they have to be aggressive because of the cancer, they will get things under control so she feels better and is able to keep fighting without so much pain and discomfort.

So although she is not too happy to have to be in the hospital, she knows that it's the best place for her right now to try to get things under control and her feeling better. I had to leave late afternoon today, but Mom and Dad were able to stay with her for awhile tonight. Hopefully she will only be in there for a few days, but we'll have to see how things go.

Sorry that I didn't add any humor in my post, like Kris and Mom try to do, but I am not finding this very humorous right now :( So hard to watch her go through this, but we know that she is stronger than this damn cancer...and she WILL start feeling better very soon and continue her fight!

Please continue to keep Kris in your thoughts and prayers!

Jen
(Kris' sister)

  1. No humor today, Jen...I agree. Kills me to see Kris as miserable as she was today...and in so much pain. Her temp is now 101...so hope those antibiotics kick in quick.

Dad and I hated leaving her tonight...she seemed so very sad. :-( But I know she'll get that fight back. She's stronger than this damn cancer...she is.

  2. Jen, thank you for the update. I think of her often and pray for her everyday. She has been through so much, it is not fair that she has to suffer more. But Linda, you're right, she is stronger than the damn cancer! Please give her my love and let me know if there is anything we can do to help. My love to you all...

  4. Oh-no...we're so sorry to learn that today the road to a cure got even bumpier! I'm sure she doesn't want to be in the hospital, but it is the best place for her to get the 24/7 care she seems to need right now... She is in our hearts and prayers. Love, Mi y Pi

  6. Jen- Thanks for the update. I tried calling her but there was no answer. Let her know the kids are fine-eating, playing, and sleeping ok. Tell her Cam went to school dressed up in "fancy clothes" today so he could be handsome. They are looking forward to swimming lessons, play date at Auntie Maura's, and t-ball game. Tell her not to worry about them, we just want her better. Love to all, Kathy

  11. Hi DIL No. 1. I picked up Cam at school Friday at Noon, then Kacey at Auntie Maura's. We went to Mickey D's for lunch. Kacey already had lunch at Maura's but wanted more so she had a cheeseburger happy meal. That kid can really eat. Cam had chicken delights but I did not order a happy meal for him so only one prize. A small crisis but they resolved it by deciding to share. What great kids. I'm learning slowly. We headed for the Cape after that and Grandma came down after work. We watched the Bruins blow the game and the Red Sox win. 2 HR's for Big Papi. We woke up this morning when we heard, "Grandma, Grandpa, anyone, I'm done." They are going to help Grandma plant some flowers today and then swim in the pool nexr door. We did the bubble pool last night but I think they'll love the big pool even more. Our pool is open but still a little chilly. So, we're having fun and can't wait to see Mommy. They miss you very much and we know you miss them. So we'll see you soon. Hope you feeling better and get home this weekend. LY. PF
